    Default please help the shape

Hoping someone can help me... I posted a topic called "beware" a little while back, I got a virus from a link I followed that was at the forum. I have installed a antivirus program, but my computer is screwed right now. I am still getting pop ups and I no longer am able to install or uninstall programs, nor do I have administrative priviliges on my own computer. FUCK!!!!

I am about to try to restore factory settings, and lose everything. I can't open system restore to go to an earlier point or any of that. I hope someone has another option for me before I try to fix the problem by restoring the factory settings.

    Thanks in advance,

    The Shape

    Allright....

    Need some info...

    To start with:

    • Windows version?
    • Service Pack version?
    • Updated via Microsoft/Windows Update?
    • Version of Internet of Internet Explorer?
    • What antivirus program did you install?
    • Do you have a software firewall installed (name)?
    • Do you have some anti-spy/ad/mall-ware installed (names)?
    • Do you know what virus or spy/ad/mall-ware, that has caused your problems.
    • Are Remote Desktop active - if not, are you able to activate it?
    • Are Remote Assistance active - if not, are you able to activate it?
    • Are there any other remote control program installed?
    • Do you have MSN/Live Messenger installed and have an account?

I assume that you are willing to do some work to rescue your system and data on your drive (fx. download and execute some security programs).

If you do not want to give the informations here then send me an e-mail!

Hope that we can save your system

    Shape,

What you are going through is a bitch. I have gone through it a couple of times. You don't have to reload all your software. Here is a link to a site that offers professional help for free on how to remove all your viruses and malware:

    http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showforum=18

You will have to download a program called HiJack This and then post the results of running that program. You post your HiJack This log and then within 3 days some tech guy will take you through all the things you need to do to get your system 100% perfect. It may take a few days, but it is well worth it.

Here is the starter sticky link on that board. Its informative:

a few generic suggestions that may help you out, roughly in order of how you should try them, I'm gonna assume you have xp as most people still do.

    1. getting administrator rights,
on xp as standard on logon you get a blue screen with usernames and pictures beside them. When you see it hit ctrl+alt+del twice, it moves you to and oldschool login box. username=administrator, password=blank. its the default setting and most boxes ship with that account enabled, very useful for emergency system rescues when someones lost their normal password.

if it works see if you can uninstall whatever is giving you grief or remove the badness with some of the tools I'll list at the end

    2. Safe mode,
You've got to force windows to give you this option at boot, there are nice ways to do it but i just wait till halfway through windows booting and pull the lead out of the back. Plug it back in and when you boot you get a warning that windows failed to boot last time (surprise surprise) and the option to start normally or start in safemode. Pick safemode, this disables almost all startups and only the hardiest of evil software will escape it.

as above see if you can uninstall the evil software or run the tools against it.

    3. save what you can.
If you cant fix it with the above methods then its probably gonna be simpler to reinstall.
If you can get usability with either of the above methods save what data you can. if its too far gone to use even with either of the above then either

    a) get hold of a boot disk like knoppix (google it) and boot that to save the data you need to cd/dvd/whatever
    b) plug the harddrive into a friends computer and use their os to save the data

but don't forget to get a good virus scanner installed before you restore your backed up data!

    TOOLS
    avg
    free(dot)grisoft(dot)com
Nice free virus scanner, reguarly updated and feature rich for summat free!

    spybot S&D
    safer-networking(dot)org
    Very good anti-spyware program

    adaware
    download(dot)com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10045910.html
    another good anti spyware program

    codestuff starter
    snapfiles(dot)com/get/starter.html
powerful startup manager, if you can stop it loading you're a reboot away from winning the fight!

    Shape:

What you experienced is unavoidable. With all the viruses and spam cookies put out by the worthless maggots of the world, all systems eventually are evtentually fucked. What I have done is to backup all my files to a remote hard-drive that is only turned on during file transfer to avoid being infected. When my system shows signs of infection, I have reimage disc for my comuter that I use which basically wipes the hard drive clean and installs a fresh image.

    Good luck in the future,

    Riceking

As porn0000 has already told you
there is this other forum that can also help

    Read this _
    http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34135
In particular number " 3. If you are unsure " , explaining " Hijack This "
Obtain " Hijack This " from that link or here _
    http://www.merijn.org/files/HiJackThis_v2.exe

Run it and save a log according to the instruction you read
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET !

    Go here and register
    http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/index.php

Post in the Free Clinic forum your log from Hijack This
Hackman2007 will respond , eventually, for example _
    http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=72154

Hackman2007 strongly disapproves of automated logfile checks
but in the absence of expert scrutiny I'll take what I can get.
Just go to this site here _ http://hjt.networktechs.com
and paste your HijackThis logfile there and click "parse" below left
instantly you will get a readout of your log entries and which are
    suspect.
You can also check individual items yourself from those listed in
    their database _ http://startup.networktechs.com

    meantime go here http://virusall.com/downscan.shtml
there are links to use various free online virus scan tools.

This is important enough that I posted another post here
    http://facialforum.net/showthread.php?p=177100
on how not to catch internet cooties.
And how to deal with it if you do. ( unlikely )
