    Default Mac questions

    Hi fellow pervs

In about a month or two I'm gettng my first Mac - ever. So is there anything I need to know to prepare? For example: Is browser choice important? How to deal with split files? What kinda player to use? And so on?

Hope there's some Mac geeks around to give some assistance

The best browser is still firefox. There are a number of mac specific browsers you can use, but firefox works for everything.

For putting together split files, I use machacha and think it's fine. There are a number of others, so it's just a matter of preference. Machacha is free, though.

For video, the 400-lb gorilla is VLC. None of the other video players can touch it for breadth of formats, and stability.

All these can be found with a quick google search, and they're all free.

BB, why are you buying a Mac? As a Mac owner, I would have to say that you have to have a good reason to put the extra money out on a Mac.
The only reason I have a Mac is that my man needed a back up computer for my site if his Mac failed. Yes, he has had two motherboards fail. All of the expensive software is Mac and that is the only reason I have a Mac.
If you do buy a Mac, Buy the extended Apple Plan!

Congratulations on getting a Macintosh computer BB. You've made the right choice. I know it was expensive but trust me it's worth every penny. Take good care of that machine. Just because it's a Mac doesn't mean it's impervious to malicious software and hacker attacks.

These are the software programs that I use and recommend.

Split and join files: Split & Concat

Unzip files: The Unarchiver (will also combine split files)

Create multiple screen captures in different time sequences: Skreenics

    Editing .avi files: Explicit
Unfortunately, this software does not recognize .wmv files. I have yet to find a free software for Macs that can edit WMV movies.

Virus scanner and hard drive scanner: ClamXav and OnyX.

    Audio editing: Audacity

All programs I have listed are freeware.

I'm sure you'll be doing more research and playing as soon as you get your computer. Have fun.
