    Default Watermarking in GIMP

Here is how to watermark a photo with GIMP (GNU Image Manipulaton Program), a free and powerful yet easy to use photo editor. I base this on the same picture jzzr used in his Photoshop tutorial available here:

    http://www.facialforum.net/showthread.php?t=36238

The first step is to go to g i m p . o r g and download the latest version.

The rest is pretty standard. File>open in the upper left of the main window and browse to the file. All tools are in the "Toolbox" to the left. All layer and selection options are on the right hand side. Click on the big letter "A" in the toolbox for text, then click on the picture where you want to add it. Use the Move and Resize tools to do just that, move and resize. The highlight the text layer in the right hand window and use the slider to set the opacity. I set it at 40% but that is completely a matter of preference. The just click File> Save As and save with a new name. That easy.

    Default Other options

Here are some more options to try. The first is at 20% transparency and the second is 20% at a -45 degree angle across the face.

I am trying to watermark my pictures with this program but I can't seem to figure out how to resize the written text to larger letters.
    Can you help me out?

In the toolbox you can choose the size of characters and the font you want to have.

    Default Glad to help

I am glad to see that people have found this helpful. I enjoy the member posts here and hate it when a great person or couple leaves because someone has stolen their content and reposted it. I wanted them to know they do not have to spend hundred or thousands on photo editing software to protect their property. I have been using Linux for about 10 years now and found there is a lot of great free open source software out there that is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows. Heck check out Blender 3D if you dont believe me. I dont do much in GIMP other than a few simple tasks, but there are tons of tutorials on their site and the web. Enjoy.
