I'm an idiot and I cannot figure out how to download/watch the videos, that seem to be in compressed files.

You need to download hjsplit its free just google it.

Then download the video files (remember where they are downloaded to)

Start Hjsplit then it will ask you for input file this is usually the file ending in 001 then output folder will be where you want the joined video to end up (eg video folder on your HD)

Then play! Simple. Any probs drop me a line.

Stmmm47 there is a couple of user guides posted here on using HJsplit
once you start using it you will never look back its a great program
