question about thumbs

I looked in the how to section but didn't find anything relating to my question. I have a Dell with XP operating system. When I view a thread with thumbs they don't show. Sometimes I see horizontle lines like this ---- and each one is a picture but I have to click on each one to see it and sometimes the space is blank and by moving the cursor around I find the spot where the thumb is and open it. I had this same problem with the ME operating system but in both systems it varies from site to site. I have access to a Mac and it shows all the thumb pictures fine! Is there a way to correct this so I can see them without out having to open every one? As with most people I only have favorites I'd like to view and not have to open every one! Hope you know of a solution for me.
