Splitting: parts (.001 etc.) vs. discrete vids
Hi. I'm familiar with HJsplit, and have used it for uploads and downloads, but I'm not savvy with file manipulation beyond that. Reassembling the pieces is easy to do, but a very large video requires many pieces, so is very time-consuming to download. So I'm wondering why don't more uploaders break a big video into smaller discrete playable video files? Is that a harder process? (I don't even know how it's done.) Is it simply that most users prefer to end up with one complete video rather than several? The advantage, of course, is that you can download just the last one in the bunch to see if you like the scene's grand finale, before spending the time to download the rest.
I'm not complaining, mind you; I'm just curious why only a minority of uploaders do it this way. Thanks everyone for all the great content you provide.
