Useful HJSplit tip for windows users

Here's a tip to make using HJSplit to join files on windows a bit easier.

Download all the parts of your split file.

Bear in mind that sometimes windows will append .mpg (or possibly some other movie file type suffix) to the file name. When attempting a join these files won't be found and your joined file will be incomplete. There are two ways round this.

1) When saving the file, change the "save as type" option to all files.
2) Actually remove the .mpg suffix manually from each file.

For the second option you wont be able to see the file suffix if the "Hide extensions of known file types" checkbox is checked.

To find this option go to an explorer window (otherwise know as my computer) and go to "Tools" -> "Folder Options". The very bottom option is "Hide extensions of known file types". Uncheck this and click OK. Now you should be able to see the rogue .mpg extension on the file and you can rename the file to remove the file extension.

I think this may have been a cause of confusion among many users, as to why HJSplit was not working properly.

I take it people do know the fundamentals of how to use HJSplit so I'll stop there, but i people need it explaining further no problem.

I have another trick that will save people some time when using HJSplit.

That is to associate the .001 files with HJSplit so that you only need to double click them to launch HJSplit.

To do this download or find a .001 file. Right click it and select "Open with" and select "choose program". Now you should see a list of programs and below this a "Browse button". Choose browse and find your HJSplit.exe file, select it and click "Open" check the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file of file" option and click ok.

Voila the .001 files are associated with HJSplit. Now you just need to click on one to launch HJSplit and after clicking "Join" -> "Input file" it's already in the right directory and all you need do is select the right file to begin a join.

Hope this makes sense. I know I'm prone to a bit of technobabble every now and again :)

But now i get another problem in the explorer.exe
If i want to rename the 001.mpg file Windows explorer
closes automatically.I can´t rename any longer.
Do you have another how i can handle this.

So why are H.J split files named.

file.mp4.001
file.mp4.002
file.mp4.003
etc
etc

Do I need to just download the file.mp4.001 ??

Can someone post a link to the HJ split program to make sure I using the real ma coy and not a fake.

No you need to dl them all

I noticed you can't use Mozilla Firefox with free-download manger to download HJ Split files. But you can use Microsoft edge or Google Chrome with Free download manger to download all the HJ Split files in the correct format and not as a php extension.
