Avoiding hotlinks
Mods,
When I mention a web address in a post, I always make sure to separate the parts (domain, suffix, path) with spaces, and spell out the dots as "dot", eliminate the slashes, etc., so it won't render as a hotlink. But then, when I see my post a day or two later, every time a mod has edited it, saying "no hotlinks". I can't figure this out! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for asking the question. It is good to see members who are trying to do the right thing and asking for help when they need it. I am not sure what would be causing links to be hot if you are doing what you described.
For instance:
www . google . com
should not be a hot link, nor should
www dot Microsoft dot com
Go ahead and post a couple links as a reply doing what you normally do, and maybe we can figure out what the issue is. If they end up being hot, don't worry about it - we won't hold it against you. You should be able to tell right away once you make the post. If they are clickable and take you to another site they are hot. But, if they are hot, leave them that way so a staff member can look at what is happening.

There is also another way to ensure that your links are never made direct.
First complete your post with any potential hotlinks in your comment.
Next scroll down under the comments box to the "Additional Options" section and you will see this option:
"Automatically Parse Links In Text"
The box next to it will be ticked by default but if you untick it first and then post your reply, you will never post a hot link.
For example using this method any url you care to post will look so: www.facialforum.net, this is perfectly acceptable.
N.B. Please remember, if at any time you need to re-edit your post then you will have to untick the box again, as after any edit it will have defaulted back and your url will again become a direct hot link. You can do this easily by clicking on "Edit Post" then on the "Go Advanced" button to bring up the "Additional Options" facility again.
Oh and btw are you sure that this happens "every time??"
One of our seniors checked your last 50 posts going back to eleven months ago and found just ONE post where a hotlink required editing by a member of staff, so I am unclear what you are getting at?

Thanks for the help... I know it happened 3 times, the last of which was here (http://www.facialforum.net/showthrea...113#post703852), but that may have been across a few years (as very few of my posts link to external sites).
I'll try a few examples, just to test...
www dot bigboobsalert dot com slash samantha-jay-window.php
www nnconnect com / cosmid_video/samantha_jay.html
I left the "auto parse" box checked here, but generally I'll try unchecking it. I'd forgotten that option was there.

Well, your examples in this thread look fine, and are not hotlinks.
Not sure what happened in the past, but you should be good using the format you just used in this post.
