Default Windows media player does not support the format

Hmmm - I get this message when trying to download some Mpeg, WMV type vids. What should I do?

Perhaps you're missing some codecs. Try and install the CCCP codec pack (google it, it should be on the top of the list). With it, you also get an exceptionally good media player, Zoom Player. It has an AB repeat function that I like in particular, for very apparant reasons regarding the contents of this forum

    Hi Seedpump,

Thanks for that advice. Done the download and it appears to work for most vids.

Some vids are now appearing just as an audio, or with a music graphic -but for others I get the whole enchilada.

So thanks - at least I am partway there.

    Hi!
If you don't want to have this "missing cocec" problems in the future, use the vlc player!

I don't know if this will work for you or not...(my apologies if I get a little technical) but I found a problem with .avi files if you use more than one sound card.

I have a laptop, when I'm at home I used a SoundBlaster Audigy w/ 6.1 DTS EX. or Dolby Digital, but when I am out and about I use the internal sound card on my laptop. Usually 90% of my programs will just default to whichever card I am using, but for some reason with Windows Media Player if I don't go into the settings and designate the proper device I am using it will cause some problems with certain vids. It's kind-of weird, for the longest time I couldn't figure it out and it would piss me off, then I stumbled across the answer one day just playing around. Also with a lot of these avi files make sure you have downloaded the latest DIVX player, that usually takes care of the audio only without video issues.

    Hope this helps...

VLC is an alternative as well, personally I don't think it's as good as Zoom Player, but hey, we're all individuals, right =)

    Default HJ Avi issue

No problem downloading and playing wmv but the HJ avi generates a message saying the Dll laptop does not have the necessary program......

I know this is simple but for me at 100 yrs old, its an issue.

BTW Thanks to Moderators - you manage the Forum very skillfully.

    Hi Larry
I take it you have joined the HJ files together using either HJSplit or FSJS first?
All files uploaded in the forum that have a prefix of .001, 002, 003 and so on, have to be joined together first or they won't play.
You get get either of these free, very small and easy to use applications in the software corner of the forum.
