    Question Editing .AVI's

I use a Mac although I also have Windows on it. Would prefer to stay "Mac Native" but if something is only available for Windows then cool too.

Every time I get a large .AVI file I have to jump through hoops to chop it down. The only direct way is with Explicit, which essentially is a splitter - turns one file into two at the juncture of your choice. Sometimes it also fucks up the video around the edit.

My other option is throwing it into QTPro, but then I can only save as .MOV, which makes the file larger. Translating through VisualHub tends to lower the pic quality even on "High".

Any video editing programs that might allow me to just throw an .AVI in, chop out sections, and resave or export, without loss of quality?

Final Cut Pro would let you do exactly what yer looking for.

You can find it on the net if you know where to look. =)

Final Cut Pro is a bit of over-kill, and I doubt you'd want to go through the learning curve. Final Cut Express is a much better choice, easier to use, and A Lot cheaper to buy.

You can also get the Flip4Mac plug-in that works with Quicktime, FCE, FCP, etc. That will convert any video file into most anything you want. We use it to make quick WMV files from existing large and high-quality MOV files. It does a better job than VisualHub for that.

Thanks, I do have Flip4Mac, but I can only save as .MOV out of that it seems. I may look into Final Cut Express, thanks.

You need the Flip4Mac WMV Studio version to output to a WMV file. You can see that at flip4mac.com/wmv_studio.htm

Hey guess what! Turns out I already had it, just a slightly older than current version. I never bothered to look at the "Export..." menu. Thanks!
