Windows movie maker and avi files

When I use my movie maker to edit videos and produce compilations, I always have a problem with avi files. The sound is there, but all I see is a black screen. Is there anything that can be done to get around this?

I would make sure you have the K lite codec package installed,in my experience with avi files if you don't have the right codecs,that's all you get is the audio.PM me with an email and I will send you a much better program.
