Automatically generated movie previews

Hi

I would like a new function to them forum. Serverside generated movie previews (this will probalbly be standard in the future anyways).

So that we just upload videos and don't have to mess with sreen shots to.
With this function I think that there will be even more uploads.

Nice thought, but not sure if it can be implemented on this forum. How easier to upload how much more uploads will done, I agree with you about that.
For split vids will this be hard to implement.
And with tools like Image grabber it is easy to make screen shots.

I disagree, I like doing my own screenshots so that I can put up exactly the stills that I want to show the vid. There are so many good and free screenshot cap programs too. I mainly use the built in capture program that comes with windows player classic. There are many other good programs as well, but like I said, half the fun of uploading for me is getting the screenshots I want.

Agreed plus it takes about 10 seconds w/image grabber to get you a set of stills to work with.

you are probably right.

but I think that you can do this server side (in the future), like running something similair to Media Player Classic on the server.

I think it should be done like this:
If a a thumbnail is added manually > use it.
If there is no thumbnail > generate it.

ok look, this is a grand idea, that i have previously tried to implement, the fact is it takes far too much proccessor to be practical, it would slow us down, and it would become very noticable, and i know it would massively affect the usabillity of the forum.

i personally would encourage users to upload a screenie.
