it seems to be the same as dvdshrink. dvd compression.I downloaded this and look how it works

a very simple software to compress a DVD. to backup your favorite DVD. language you choose to save the audio, you can also remove the menu if you want.

When I posed the question last year I had come across a source of some videos that sounded interesting but I wasn't able to get them to work. I haven't any idea where they were and I have't come across any examples recently- so I've no immediate need to take up your offer. I will keep it in mind though.
