The word 'dogging' originated in the 1970s in
the UK, when people (usually swingers) started
having sex in outdoor locations, such as
country car parks. Others followed them to watch
and so they were 'dogging their footsteps'. The
word stuck, and was applied to all such sexual
encounters, which usually took place after dark.
Actually Jaime the most widely accepted origin of the phrase is this, "The term originates from the practice of men using imaginary dogs as an excuse for hanging around in the bushes."
