Video editing softwared

I know that this question has been asked before but what is a decent video editing software program? I don't need something that great but something that will allow me to take one video and trim it into more than 2 parts and then combine them into a shorter video. Windows movie maker doesn't let you do that I don't think. Is there something good and easy out there that doesn't take alot of time for a learning curve? Any help would be appreciated.

For simple splitting and joining, I use Boilsoft splitter and joiner, very fast and easy to use.

For more options ie. re-encoding into other file formats, colour correction, picture cropping, volume adjustment and other filters. I find TMPEnc 4.0 XPress very handy.

Neither are free but are easily found on most good torrent sites
