Portland, for the time being, has a more open minded political leadership. "Keep Portland weird" is a common slogan shared even by the mayor. Economics would be the major destroyer of alternative lifestyles that include sex, art, music ect. I am thinking Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and too many cities to name.

The developers are the ones who almost ruined it for Tampa because they were targeting the area in which all of the porn shops and strip clubs were located. (and had been asked to move because there are no schools there.) They are trying to ruin it for Las Vegas. When I think of Vegas, I think of sex. That city is targeting swing clubs in an effort to close them down. Why? Because they are sitting on prime real estate. The Green Door is located in this strange little 60's strip mall. It is an awesome place. There are several swing clubs, one of the best Thai restaurants in the country, an awesome real pool hall, a fabulously sleazy transvestite bar, several Chinese food places, sex clothes shops, LGBT community center, a gay bath house, and miscellaneous other small business that can afford the cheap rent.

Tampa has a more open minded political leadership also. I heard a story in Tampa when I was there. The police, the devil's idle handles, were spending a ton of time busting consenting adults in the gay bath houses and porn stores. A new mayor was elected and appointed a new police commissioner and that woman thought it was strange that her men were spending so much time on consenting adults having sex when there was widespread crime in Tampa. She publicly stated that I believe and now Tampa is a wonderful place to enjoy oneself's in a porn store.
