not exactly true... while not the easiest to use, VLC does infact have transcoding or converting features; it's what I use when I have to convert a file... your VLC should have a "wizard" which handles this transcoding... give it a try; if you still need help just ask

I have found out that it seems to be on the latest updated version 0.9.9
You can find it under the media tab at the top left hand corner, the convert/save option will appear in the drop down option.
I haven't tried it myself but it's worth a shot

Thanks again Alkie, you are on the money once again. I need the newer version. Just my observation, but many members appear to avoid viewing flv vid postings versus mpeg formats. I am trying to make it simpler for them to view.
