Unfortunately it has been on the cards since it was sold a few years ago. This is what often happens when you run a site from a clinical business point of view rather than passion for the niche. IMHO

Yep - can't think of a single site that was bought from the original owners that went on to bigger and better things (at least, not creatively). Sad to see VE go, I remember years back when the original owner would post on the forum.
